Red Bull’s Adrian Newey believes that Mercedes have something to hide from rivals due to the delayed release of their 2012 challenger.
Whilst teams like Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari all revealed their cars before the first pre-season test in Jerez, Mercedes decided to release their new challenger in Barcelona at the second pre-season test at the Circuit de Catalunya, February 21st.

Red Bull Technical Director, Adrian Newey
The Red Bull technical director told Sport Bild, “I assume that they want to hide something from the competition,”
“It must be something that can be copied quite quickly; otherwise they wouldn’t try so hard to keep it secret.”
Newey was not alone in believing Mercedes has something to hide with Helmut Marko adding, “They seem to have something special at the front of the car.”
Mercedes did a shakedown of the new car at Silverstone on Thursday.
